One of the most exciting things for me about the turn of the season is watching new trends stream through as I scroll through different channels and save new ideas for styling. The perks of living in a digital age! In my experience, there are certain trends that shine with possibility and some that remain hard to pull off. But, I think that the secret to incorporating new trends into your looks is to know what you already love and then slowly incorporate new elements in different styles. Experimenting with new colors first, then new textures and maybe new shapes–who knows! So, mid-way through my afternoon scroll and research, I thought I would pass along some ideas I’ve been eyeing for the biggest trends this summer. And I must say, some are super fun!
Trend #1: Bike Shorts
This is actually a cross-over trend from last summer, so I’m cheating here just a little, but for good reason! I’m here for contrast when it comes to styling. This season, it’s all about counterbalancing these with a blazer and kitten heels OR opting for staying super practical with sneakers and a button-down shirt. Either way, I find myself adding new styles to my virtual shopping carts each week.
How to Style: Here I’ve paired them with a chunky flatform + girly top + easy cardigan. A no fuss outfit recipe that will be effortless, especially on early summer mornings!
Trend #2: Sporty Sneakers
If you’re not on the dad show bandwagon just yet, you’ll love the bold sneaker trend that is slowly popping up this season. For summer pair your favorite sundress with a pop of color on your feet!
How to Style: I love how easy this look is! Dresses are a whole look on their own and then you just have to throw on a cool sneaker, it’s one-step and you’re done. My styling tip would be to mix and match color and patterns here, the bolder the better.
Trend #3: Sheer Pieces
This is definitely a barer look to pull off and I would advise on styling intentionally here. Sheer pieces are delicate and being fully embraced this season. You’ll see them as either statements, like sheer suits or in separates like the top I’m wearing below.
How to Style: Like I said, be intentional about your styling choices. There’s not much to leave to the imagination, so make sure you’re comfortable with what you have on underneath. Try styling with a chic bralette and even add a heel to emphasize the girliness of this look.
Tend #4: Fringe
Fringe was in full force on the runways this season. This is the latest iteration of the western trend we’ve seen so much of. This season it’s been added as a dramatic embellishment to pieces, inherently making them ready for a twirl or two!
How to Style: Keep it simple. Let the fringe do the work! I loved styling this fringe-embellished top with black skinny jeans and a pump.
I’m curious to know what are some of the trends that you have been eyeing this season. Let’s discuss in the comments below!
