3 Unexpected Hairstyles to Try in 2020

This year is all about out with the old, in with the new. It’s about taking risks. And yes, I’m talking about hair risks.

Below, I’m rounding up three unexpected styles to try this year, including a pseudo-bang moment that will have you wondering if they’re real, and a new take on the messy bun. And, for all of my hair accessory fans out there, don’t worry, the trend is still going strong in 2020.

70’s Faux Bangs

To recreate this look:

1. On clean, towel-tried hair, apply Not Your Mother’s 10-in-1 Hair Perfector. Blow dry hair.
2. Wave hair, leaving out two front pieces which will serve as your “bangs.”
3. Spray Not Your Mother’s She’s a Tease Volumizing Hair Spray to whole head.
4. Loosely tuck your bangs behind your ears, allowing them to swoop forward, and secure with a bobby pin. 
5. For extra volume on your waved hair (or, if you’ve created this look with dirty hair), spray Not Your Mother’s Plump For Joy Body Building Dry Shampoo at the roots and work into hair.

2020’s Messy Bun

To recreate this look:

1. Take two sections of hair that frame your face and wave them vertically with a one inch wand.
2. Tie the rest of your hair back smoothly into a pony tail, and on your final loop with your hair tie, pull the hair only slightly through, leaving a looped bun and a tail (see photos above!).
3. Remove a small piece of hair from your looped bun with the pointed end of a comb, and wrap it around the base of your bun. Secure with a bobby pin, or tuck into your hair tie.
4.  To hold the look in place, spray She’s a Tease Volumizing Hair Spray on the top of your head, spraying extra on the bun to hold it in place.

Accessorized Sleek Pony

To recreate this look:

1. On clean, towel-tried hair, apply Not Your Mother’s 10-in-1 Hair Perfector. Blow dry hair and straighten if needed until silky smooth.
2. Part hair in the center, and pull back into a low pony tail.
3. Slick back using Not Your Mother’s You’re So Gelous Glossing Gel Glue or a hair wax and toothbrush.
4. Remove a small piece of hair from your ponytail with the pointed end of a comb, and wrap it around the base of your ponytail. Secure with a bobby pin or tuck into your hair tie.
5. Spray Not Your Mother’s Rise & Shine Silky Shine Mist to the top of your head.
6. Grab an accessory (could be a hair accessory but I used an earring I love) and attach it with a bobby pin to the base of the pony tail.
