10 Chic Hair Accessory Ideas for Summer

One of the biggest trends this summer season is actually Hair Styling 101. We’ve all seen these girlish hair accessories everywhere, like pearl hairpins adorning hairlines stylishly in rows to make ultra-feminine but cute statements. And, I’m here for all of them, like this LELET NY barrette I recently posted on Instagram. So this season, why leave the fun clips and headbands to just little girls? We’re strong women, we can wear them too! And because I’m channeling my inner Blair Waldorf, as I have a renaissance moment with barrettes, scrunchies and, yes, designer headbands, here are the 10 chicest hair accessory ideas that I’m loving for summer.

Decorated Bobby Pins

The key to this trend is layering. You could even try styling them free form. A bonus if you stack them along your hairline for added drama.

Padded Headbands

Prada sent padded headbands down the runway for its Spring Season ‘19 collection and everyone has been coveting them since. Which then slowly sparked posts of Carolyn Bessette chicly pairing this hair accessory while walking the streets of NYC in the 80’s. Needless to say, they’re elegant and go perfectly with an oversized sweatshirt.

Repurposed Bows

This is one of my favorite trends! I love repurposing chic ribbon like this Chanel one that I’ve posted a few times for bow. (Pause for a Kobe moment while you’re there!) Bows are the most practical hair accessory because they double as a hair tie. Or, you could even use a shoelace if you dare to be bold.

Embellished Barrettes

These come in all forms and are very Instagram-friendly. When styled the right way, they can elevate any look. I can’t wait to try wearing multiple in a ponytail for an intentional, yet extra-cool look.

Say Anything Pins

British Designer Ashley Williams popularized this statement hair trend with her pins and they’ll help you say exactly what you want without saying anything at all. They do sell out faster than Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kits, but there are so many great dupes now like these Kitsch ones.

Chignon Scarfs

Another off-the-runway trend that I’ve been lusting after. Burberry is now making chignon scarfs and I think they’re the epitome of chic.

Make It Designer

I’ve mentioned a lot of designer hair pieces, so why not just make it designer? While hair accessories may not be your first pick for a designer purchase, it is a luxury to have classic staple in your collection that will be timeless so you can reach for season after season.

Chic Visors

If you’re like me and still feeling out the new bucket hat trend, visors may be your summer alternative. They’re practical and will perfectly expose your hair so you can double down on your accessories—maybe even add a chic decorated bobby pin if you’re feeling extra.

Hair Slides

Another “more the merrier” moment, there are hair slides. These look best when you style them together on one side or fasten them right at the back of your head for a half-up look.

Pearl Pieces

I think there’s something about pearls that instantly makes any casual outfit look chic. For added trend points, pair with pearl jewellery.
